Additional Scholarship Opportunities From AFSA

Aside from the National Scholarship Contest provided by the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA), there are some chapters of AFSA across the United States running state-sponsored essay contest that allows students from these states to have a chance of winning additional scholarship money.

So on top of the $2000 scholarship money that you could win in AFSA National Scholarship Program, you can still be eligible to win up to $3000 additional scholarship prize if your respective state is running a state-sponsored AFSA scholarship.

The two common states that offer state-sponsored AFSA scholarship via essay writing contest are the Virginia AFSA Chapter , Connecticut AFSA Chapter and the Georgia Fire Sprinkler Association.

As of this date, the Georgia essay contest for the 2006-2007 is already closed. The new topic and schedule will be announced in the summer of 2007. But for those students from Virginia, they can still submit their 700-1000 word essay that describes the history and impact of automatic fire sprinklers  until March 1, 2007. Virginia AFSA is giving away prizes of $1500 for 1st place, $750 for 2nd place, and $500 for 3rd place.
